Museums

The Museum Service looks after five historic buildings:

Over 300,000 artefacts, 80,000 photographs and a number of historic collections are cared for and conserved at the above locations. Thousands of historic documents are also housed at a variety of other locations including Mount Edgcumbe House and Buckland Abbey.

Temporary exhibitions, lectures and workshops are held at the City Museum and Art Gallery throughout the year. The Museum also provides an Education Service for schools and proactive outreach and access services for community groups and adults. A youth forum called The Core also exists specifically for young people aged 13 to 18 years of age.

What's more, the Museum is busy refurbishing most of its ground floor to create four new spaces highlighting different aspects of its collections. Visit the Ground floor redevelopment page for more details!
