Magnificent late Victorian country house

  • The Great House of Cornwall – ‘Upstairs-Downstairs' brought to life
  • 50 rooms reflecting life in a rich and splendid Victorian household
  • Set in 450 acres of woods, parklands and gardens

The garden has its roots in the Victorian age, but its main plant collection is young with almost all the plants dating from the last 50 years, although earlier plantings still survive. The Trust continues to build on the Victorian theme established by the family – magnolias and rhododendrons being particular features of the garden. Camellias bring early spring colour, while the herbaceous borders and formal parterres are ablaze in mid-summer.

Set in 450 acres of woods, parkland and gardens of rare shrubs and trees. Built in 1651 and largely rebuilt after a fire in 1881, this Victorian House has 50 rooms open to view including kitchens, nursery wing and the original long gallery.
