Thousand-year-old castle rising above the Isle of Purbeck

  • Majestic ruins over 1000 years old
  • Events, including living history, throughout the year – contact 0870 240 4068 for details
  • Wider estate to discover and explore

The majestic ruins have been an important stronghold since the time of William the Conqueror. In 1646, following a lengthy siege, Parliamentarian forces destroyed the building, leaving the ruins we see today. Many fine Norman and early English features remain. Learn more about the fascinating lives of the castle’s past residents at the Castle View Visitor Centre, a short walk from the castle. Visit the National Trust shop and tea room at the castle entrance.

Nearby Corfe Common is rich in archaeology and wildlife and Creech Grange Arch is a folly with spectacular views. A walks leaflet is available from the property. Open daily all year except 25th & 26th December. Please see the website for opening times.
