Things to Do: Beaches
The beach is consists mainly of fine pebbles with shingle and sand near to the water's edge. West Beach is ideal for younger children due to a protective cove being formed between the harbour’s new west pier (Jurassic Pier) and the esplanade’s rock armour groynes.
This is an ideal beach for families and has plenty of soft sand for making sand castles. Canoes and deck chairs are also available for hire depending on how active you’re feeling.
A long, coarse sandy beach that is overlooked by cliffs and farmland. The water is clean but there are strong currents and care should be taken when swimming.
Beautiful gravel and sand beach backed by magnificent cliffs, including Golden Cap, the highest cliff on the south coast at 191m above sea level.
This is an excellent family beach with gently sloping sands and safe sheltered swimming. Activities on the water include sailing, windsurfing and diving. Canoe and pedalo hire is also available.
