Things to Do: Beaches
Crantock Beach, Nr Newquay, Cornwall (North Coast)
A wonderful sandy beach nestled within east and west Pentire Headlands
It is backed by high dunes at one end and by steep cliffs at the other. There is a large expanse of mostly tide swept golden sand and the River Gannel enters the sea at the northern edge.
The twin villages of Cawsand and Kingsand sit across the Tamar from Plymouth. They have east facing sand and shingle beaches sheltered by Rame Head Peninsula and offering views over Plymouth Sound.
Hele Bay Beach, Nr Ilfracombe, Devon (North Coast)
Set in a small cove in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
A free car park and toilets within easy walking distance and access via a slipway (wheelchair access is difficult). The centre of the beach is flat sand and shingle at high or low tide. Low tide exposes rocks on either side of the beach with rock pools and fishing.
This is one of the most beautiful coves in Cornwall and has been popular with sightseers since Victorian Times. The sandy beach has numerous caves to explore and although swimming is possible you should be wary of the tides.
Penhale Sands, together with Perran Sands and Perranporth Beach form a three mile stretch of golden sands. Large sand dunes back the beaches and are fun to explore. The beaches are popular with surfers.
