Things to Do: Beaches
The beach is consists mainly of fine pebbles with shingle and sand near to the water's edge. West Beach is ideal for younger children due to a protective cove being formed between the harbour’s new west pier (Jurassic Pier) and the esplanade’s rock armour groynes.
Mill Bay is a sheltered beach situated in the Salcombe Estuary. It has fine, golden sand and there are also plenty of rockpools to be explored. Bathing here is considered to be very safe. There is only limited parking but the beach can be reached by ferry from Salcombe.
Shell Bay is a beautiful sandy beach with easy access by road or ferry. The fine sand is ideal for building sand castles and there are dunes to explore too. There is also a woodland nature trail behind the beach.
This is a popular family orientated beach that benefits from a safe swimzone and a lost children's patrol from May to September. Activities on the water include sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and jet skiing.
The gradually sloping beach and clean safe water make this an ideal beach for young families. Activities on the water include windsurfing, sailing and canoeing. Water sports equipment hire and tuition are also available.
